Several years ago, a couple of "semi-retired" restaurateurs spent the weekend bonefishing in the Florida Keys with their new best friend, a local guide known as Travis. After eating plates of not so fresh raw oysters and drinking warm beers, they yearned for something more. The boys asked Travis where the locals go to enjoy good food and good times. "Most of us 'round these parts catch a bite and brew at BoneFish Creek," he replied.
As the legend goes, BoneFish creek was built by local fishermen who wanted a place where they could swap "fish stories" after a long, hard day on the water. As time wore on, the Creek's popularity grew and those enterprising fishermen expanded their little shack to include an eat-in kitchen, an island shaped bar, and a citified sound system complete with fancy satellite and TV's to keep up with the weather and sporting events.
After Hurricane Donna cut through the keys in the early 60's, the original
BoneFish Creek was swept away forever. But, two things still remain, the
original "BoneFish Creek" sign that hangs outside today and great memories. Our restaurateurs have created that same down home, comfortable atmosphere they experienced on that little spit of land in the keys.
