Heathcote Botanical Gardens, Inc. was established in 1985 by a group of citizens desiring to rescue a retired plant nursery from encroaching urbanization and transform it into a public garden facility. Within its boundaries existed numerous exotic plant species, mature native trees and shrubs, a Japanese Garden, outbuildings and a house originally constructed in 1922 that was moved to the site in 1967.
Heathcote is a joy! Such a wonderful place for a brown bag lunch or a place to bring out of town guests. The workshops have helped me with my own garden and volunteering on Wednesday mornings in the gardens is always rewarding. The people involved in Heathcote are the nicest!
Heathcote is a lovely, serene sanctuary, close to but worlds away from the hustle and bustle of US Hwy 1. A perfect little world of beauty! Friendly staff and incredible volunteers!
